Sportcrete Americas has recently completed the installation of
Sportcrete as an under layment for the Fieldturf Tarkett installation at
the Washburn University Baseball Infield Project located in Topeka, Kansas.
The base is aggregate, consisting of 4 inches of washed, manufactured sand, was
installed by Nemaha Construction of Omaha, Nebraska with Jeff Emanuel the
project manager. Managing the project for Sportcrete was Ian Tittershill of
Sportcrete Americas and Scott Shaw, also a principal in Sportcrete Americas.
On site for Fieldturf Tarkett were John Schedler, Construction Manager and
Jason Berning, Territory Manager for Fieldturf Tarkett.
On our website, you can
watch a video highlighting the Washburn installation.
The website
also provides a more in depth explanation of the Sportcrete System for
sports fields as well as golf bunkers. A CD of the Washburn video is also
available upon request at no charge. We at Sportcrete Americas encourage
the Sports Fields Construction Community to further investigate the
properties and advantages of The Sportcrete System when compared to the
various drain tiles, drain mats, drain pads, and traditional aggregate stone
bases which are currently being used in sub base construction throughout
North America. It may also be illuminating to
view the Only Golf
presentation (PDF), which shows the installation of
approximately 500,000 square feet of Fieldturf over a Sportcrete stabilized
aggregate base for an all synthetic golf course in Madrid, Spain. Notice
the undulations and hills sculpted into the base achievable only with the
use of Sportcrete.
Briefly the characteristics and advantages of the Sportcrete System are
as follows:
- The system is patented which describes it as aggregate being
stabilized with Sportcrete for use as an under layment and drainage layer
for playing fields.
- Sportcrete is an engineered system used in conjunction with aggregate that
results in a porous, vertically draining medium that approaches the PSI of
concrete while maintaining high flow rates of water. The technology lends
itself to the contractor using the latest state of the art laser technology
to smooth and sculpt aggregate to achieve very high quality bases that will
not be compromised once the synthetic turf installation begins.
- The strength and stability of the Sportcrete System will allow designers
to work in conjunction with soils engineers to possibly reduce the depth of
cut and cross section of drainage aggregate leading to a costs savings in
excavation, export, and disposal feesas well as import and placement of the
aggregate when compared to typical two-layered stone bases.
- It is anticipated that the Sportcrete System will achieve cost neutrality
when compared to typical stone base costs throughout the U.S., especially on
both coasts, while providing a much superior sub base for synthetic turf
installation. When compared to drain mat or pad systems Sportcrete may
indeed have a cost advantage.
- The Sportcrete System will have a 5-year pro-rated warranty compared to
the typical 1-year for aggregate bases.
- The Sportcrete System has been in use as an under-layment for synthetic
turf since 1989 and has been proven for two life cycles of synthetic turf
use in Tasmania where a temperature variance from 10 degrees Farenheit to
104 degrees Farenheit is common.
- Sportcrete has been approved as an under-layment sytem for Fieldturf.
Drawings and calculatons are being prepared that will illustratethe
approved engineered drainage base design by Fieldturf.
We look forward to your reviewing the Sportcrete System and learning how
working with Sportcrete will yield higher quality and more cost effective sub
base construction projects as well as superior finished synthetic turf
fields. Exclusive Distribution Territories for the Sports Fields Market are
currently available in North and South America which include complete
training, pump equipment, installation kit and support marketing as the
foundation for profitable Sportcrete sales.
